RAK Thanksgiving Dinner on Saturday, November 29

RAK is hosting its annual Thanksgiving Dinner this Saturday:

  • Time:  Saturday, November 29 from 5:30 until~
  • Place:  VFW Canteen, near Yongsan Garrison in Seoul (10-15 minutes from Noksapyeong Station)

We have ordered two Turkey dinners with the standard complement of side dishes.  The cost is 20,000 won per person; 10,000 won for children under 15.  We would also appreciate it if you could bring a side dish or desert.

Please RSVP Andy at andyinrok@lycos.com by 5:00 on Thursday, November 27 if you would like to attend.

The dinner 'officially ends at 7:00 but the I am pretty sure that the folks at the Canteen would be more than happy for folks to stick around and drink their beer.

Here are a couple of maps to the Canteen (mislabeled "Lodge," the VFW has "posts").

Debate watching party last Friday

About 15 people came out last Friday morning to the VFW Canteen near Yongsan Garrison to watch the vice presidential debate between Governor Sarah Palin and Senator Joe Biden.

It ended up being a bi-partisan affair after a couple of members of Democrats Abroad joined us.

Attendance was better than you would normally expect on a weekday morning since October 3 is a national holiday in Korea (National Foundation Day).

RAK registers voters at July 4 celebration

Republicans Abroad, along with Democrats Abroad-Republic of Korea and the Korean post of Veterans of Foreign Wars, conducted a highly successful voter registration and absentee ballot application drive at the VFW tent during the Independence Day celebration at Yongsan Garrison on July 4.

RAK Chairman John Lee worked with other volunteers to assist over 110 people in filling out Federal Post Card Applications (FPCAs).  In addition, John provided 40 FPCAs and registration information to an officer so he could register the soldiers under his command.

Thanks go to the VFW for sharing tent space with us and DAROK for doing their part to make the registration drive a success.
