Lady Yangban has here own blog.  It is not the most active blog out there (like I can talk on that subject) but does offer a Korean perspective on life in North Carolina.

It is in Korea, but is picture-heavy so even those would can't read Korean will find something to like.

Hammer time in the National Assembly

I get quoted periodically in the MSM but it still happens rarely enough that I get giddy when I am quoted myself in major publications.

A case in this article in the LA Times of last December's fighting in the National Assembly:

"Many fighting politicians really do believe that if they lose their battle, democracy itself will be in danger," said Andy Jackson, a political columnist for the Korea Times.

Most South Korean lawmakers, he said, would rather fight than switch their votes: "The attitude is that if you're not fighting, you're not trying. So you pull off the gloves and you go at it."

From Sourwood Cove

My self-described "old liberal" uncle has a column in his community paper:  From Sourwood Cove.  It is pretty cool stuff.

As you might expect from an 82-year-old writer, there are a lot of remembrance pieces.  There are also articles on current issues.  Unfortunately, his more recent stuff has not gotten online.

As far as I know, I my brother and one cousin are the only Republicans in an extended family of several dozen (although many of the Democrats in the family are "Reagan Democrats").

I have not been around

I've been tagged by Joshua over at OneFreeKorea via email, which gives me an excuse to post again at the creaking remains of my jeongja.

North America is covered (with all three proper-sized countries) but I only have a few countries on the fringe of the Euraisa landmss to show for all my time in Korea.  At this point I doubt I will ever go to Europe since funds for the next several decades will be tied up in the kids' college funds and our major travels will be visiting family in Korea or America (depending on where I live).  Also, our BIG POST-RETIREMENT TRIP will probably be to South America (Lady Yangban and I have some weird thing about visiting Lake Titicaca.).

The South is my home turf.  I visited many of the northern states during my mover days between my undergrad and graduate schools.  Texas and several southwestern states were visited during a couple of long drives I took in the early 1990s.  I visited the northwest with a couple of Korean professors in 2001or 2002.  I do not count Delaware, Rhode Island (drive through) or Alaska (airport lay over).  As a side note, I have lived in Virginia, North Carolina, Oregon, D.C., Iowa (in winter!) and Louisiana (in summer!).

Light posting again

My posting has been light, both here and at the Marmot's Hole, and will continue to be light for a another week or so.

I've been busy with a couple of writing projects and planning for a Republicans Abroad picnic we had this weekend.

The Jeongja is slowly closing

I have decided to close this blog once the lease runs out in October.

While I like having my own little piece of cyberspace, family and work obligations are eating into my free time and I need to prioritize. 

Most of my future posting will be at the Marmot's Hole, where I do not have to worry about site maintenance issues.  I will still post here a couple of times a weeks until the end.
