More dead blogs and other changes

Technical problems forced me to drop my old set-up.  I'll probably stick with this basic format until January when I will have time to do a major overhaul.  However I will be making some adjustments over the next week or two.

This is also a good excuse to update my blog roll.

I have a pretty simple criteria for what I put on my roll:  Do I like to check it out at least twice a month?  If the answer is no, then it doesn't go up.  If it is already up, then it is time to go down.  So it is time to call in the executioner.  Drum roll please.....

Those are the bloggers that died, died! (mood music)

Korea Life Blog:  The man lives in China.  He has no Korean life.

Korean Constitutional Law:  I had really high hopes for this one.  Too bad he stopped.

Nora knows nada?:  Nora doesn't know how to post.

Plunge Pontificates:  The guy has a strong reputation among bloggers.  He starts a great blog with quality posts.  He gets an Instalaunch.... and then disappears.  Anyone know the story on this?

Warrior News:  No link.  It's dead, Jim.

Californian Sojourn:  I like his stuff but he posts too infrequently to keep my interest.

One blog that I refuse to take off my roll despite no posts since last February is Diplomad.  I still click on my link to it from time to time, hoping that they have started up again.  Until that happy day, the  Daily Demarche is a good substitute.

The replacement blogs

China Life Blog:  The new adventures of Charisma Man:  replacement country; replacement girl; replacement blog.

Kotaji:  I picked this lefty Brit to give my roll a little more ideological balance.  Needless to say we disagree on almost everything.  For example, check out our opinions of Korea's Democratic Labor Party:

Flying Yangban (in the Marmot's Hole):  "the Stark Raving Loony Party of Korean politics"

Kotaji:  (comment to the same post):  "the only sane party in the legislature"

Budaechigae II:  This is a link I had been meaning to make for a long time.  The Kimchi GI has a quality site.

DPRK Studies:  It features posts with lots of links; a good source for secondary research on the Norks.

Kathreb:  Another well-written blog that I should have linked to long ago

Kushibo-e Kibun:  A good blog by a nice guy

The Lost Nomad:  A fine blog to round out my new additions.

The Daily Kos:  I have so much fun reading Blame Bush that I decided to link to another liberal parody site.  Here is a sample from one of yesterday's posts (NOTE:  language rules temporarily suspended):

Oh boy. You've just stepped in it now, shitheads....  This one's personal -- screw everything else... I'm also an at-this-point-happily-lapsed but still damn respectful Roman Catholic...  I will be God Damn Fucking Dead And In a Hole In The Fucking Ground...  fucking code phrase for batshit conservative reactionaries...  There's nothing fucking "Italian American" about being an ultra-far-right conservative jackass....  you shoved Alito's well-groomed hand up Rosa Parks' corpse...  I will bury you, you loathsome little egg-humping fucker...

I despise Alito because he's a Scalia-Thomas-Dobson reactionary blowhard so far out of the mainstream that in his mental counties they haven't even invented the damn telegraph yet, and our shared ethnicity has exactly Zero The Fuck To Do With It. And you goddamn race-baiters know it...

Goddamn it, if you want to see one particular stereotype come to full fruition, you got it...  I'm part Sicilian, and I'm another big part Scottish, which means between the two of them that my natural demeanor in this fight is to rip off your arms, beat you to death with them, and serve the remains stuffed in dissected sheep parts and delivered to your parents' doorstep...  far-right fuckwipes...  Fuck you. Choose your weapon.

Bold is in the original and, no, I did not make that stuff up.  Liberal Larry would be proud.

i tried to access your blog thru firefox but no luck

I'm seeing it fine in firefox today - Nov 2 '05... just in case you're wondering.

Your comment has got through the rigourous 'airport-style' security system at my blog. Sorry about the delay.

Glad you liked my comment on the relative sanity of the DLP :)

I think it's my fault that Nora and Plunge have stopped posting. Somehow my jinxing of sports teams may have carried over to their blogs when I tagged them, since they both stopped blogging after that.

Yeah, baby!!! I'm a replacement blog!

Kushibo,

I feel your pain...I talked smack about the Cleveland Indians and right after they choked and folded like a cheap suit.

Now that was odd...when I went to post the above comment, I received this error message:
"In an effort to combat malicious comment posting by scripts, I've enabled a feature that requires a weblog commenter to wait a short amount of time before being able to post again. Please try to post your comment again in a short while. Thanks for your patience." Considering that this was my first comment here in quite the while...I noticed the same thing over on my blog and submitted a help ticket with typepad. I've seen a few bugs since their weekend maintenance - like if you delete your cookies, the main typepad site won't remember you, even if you click on the "remember me" box. Also, the comment counts underneath posts aren't updating right away. I'll see 3 comments for a post on my sidebar, yet underneath the post, the comment count will say 1 or 2, yet when I check, all comments are there. Hopefully they're looking into all of these things.

It's pretty clear that Daily Kos is unhinged.

What's amazing to me is how many are willing to go along being unhinged together.

Nomad,
I am pretty picky with my blog roll. I work under the theory that 'if you link to everybody, you link to nobody' so I usually only add blog links two or three times a year.

My experience with Typepad has been pretty good so far. Of course, I'm a pretty low-end user.

As hard as I try to take the Left seriously, they press onward trying to prove Michelle Malkin and Michael Savage to be correct.

And that scares me more than dirty bombs, missing WMDs, or Osama been Hidin'...

These guys are starting to sound like they really do wear tinfoil helmets and all that...

What happened to peaceful and friendly discourse between opposing sides? Bush is most likely not the evil genius or moron the Left claims him to be--and I'm fairly certain none of the Senators from either New York or Massachusetts is _really_ a communist; but to hear the left rage, you'd think they were engaging in some sort of emotional catharsis, a type of political screaming that tends to make both sides more angry.

It's not the best way to "win friends and influence people" to join your side--unless one is looking for the nutjobs, the immature, the mentally unhealthy...

The reason this matters is that the shrill voices of the extreme Left are driving more people to the extreme Right and shutting off serious debate on the critical items of the day.

Remember this when they take away your right to dissent...

Any idea what happened to Marmot? (Site has been down for a few days...)

I don't know but it has helped me post more on my blog. I hope he gets his blog back up soon.

also would love to know what happened to marmot...was a good source...

Sunsets From My Window

I lived in a twelfth-floor apartment in Ansan, Korea for about 18 months. As you can see, it offered some pretty good views in the evening. My wife and I often enjoyed the summer sunsets during dinner.
